We are a news website, not a data company. We collect as little about you as we can, and this page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

1. Who we are

The Peak Content (thepeakcontent.in) is an independent digital news platform run from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. When this policy says "we", "us" or "our", it means The Peak Content.

2. What information we collect

You can read every article on this website without creating an account or telling us who you are. The information we do get falls into three groups:

  • Information you send us: if you use our contact form or email us, the form opens your own email app. We only receive what you choose to send, usually your name, email address and message. The form itself does not save anything on our servers.
  • Usage information: like most websites, we use analytics tools to see which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from (city or country), what kind of device and browser they use, and which website sent them to us. This is counted in bulk; we do not use it to identify you personally.
  • Small settings saved in your browser: we remember your language choice (English or Hindi) and whether you have already voted in a poll, so you are not asked again. These stay on your device and are not sent to us.

3. Polls

Poll votes are anonymous. We only store the total number of votes for each option. We do not record your name, email or account with your vote.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files a website places in your browser. We use them, and similar browser storage, for these purposes:

  • Essential: remembering your language choice and poll votes.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics help us understand which stories readers find useful.
  • Advertising: ads help keep our news free. Advertising partners such as Google and Taboola may use cookies to show ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites.
  • Staff login: a login cookie is used only by our own editors to access the admin area. Readers never receive it.

5. How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

  • To reply to your messages, news tips and correction requests.
  • To understand which stories are read so we can improve our coverage.
  • To keep the website fast, secure and working properly.
  • To show advertising that pays for our journalism.
  • To follow the law when we are legally required to.

6. Who we share it with

We work with a small number of trusted service providers who help run the website. Each of them handles data under its own privacy policy:

  • Vercel: hosts the website and provides privacy-friendly visit statistics.
  • Google: Google Analytics, and Google advertising services where ads are shown.
  • Ahrefs: website traffic statistics.
  • Taboola: advertising and content recommendations.
  • Cloudinary and MongoDB: store our article images and content. They do not hold reader data.

7. Controlling ads and analytics

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still work, although your language choice may reset. You can also use these official tools:

  • Google Ad Settings: turn off personalised ads
  • How Google uses information from sites that use its services
  • Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on
  • Taboola privacy policy and opt-out

8. How long we keep information

We keep emails only for as long as we need them to reply, follow up on a story or keep a record of corrections. Analytics data is kept by the analytics providers for the period set in their tools, after which it is deleted or made anonymous.

9. Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and similar laws in other countries, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you;
  • correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • delete your information, unless we have to keep it by law;
  • withdraw any consent you gave us earlier.

10. Children's privacy

Our website is meant for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Keeping information safe

The website runs over a secure HTTPS connection, and access to our admin area is limited to our editorial team. No website can promise complete security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.

12. Links to other websites

Our articles sometimes link to other websites and sources. We are not responsible for how those websites handle your information, so please read their privacy policies too.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top. For important changes we will also add a notice on the website.

14. Contact and grievances

For any privacy question, request or complaint, email us at thepeakcontent5@gmail.com with the subject "Privacy". We read every message and aim to reply within 7 working days.
